Team Lead – Support, Quality, SRE & Data Engineering

Contract & Compensation

• Contract Type: 1-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.

• Monthly Budget: $7000 USD.

• Work Arrangement: Work From home (WFH).

• Business Travel: Occasional business trips required to support cross-functional collaboration and project execution

Overview

The Team Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring that individual engineers align with and adhere to established processes and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Acting as the primary point of contact for 2U Full-Time Employees (FTEs), the Team Lead will oversee functions related to Support Engineering, Quality Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Data Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide guidance and mentorship to a global team of engineers.

• Act as the primary liaison for 2U counterparts, primarily based in South Africa, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.

• Process & SLA Management

• Develop and implement mechanisms to monitor and track SLAs using tools like Jira.

• Identify areas for improvement through process mapping, root cause analysis (RCA), and data analysis.

• Ensure compliance with established processes and standards across all engineering functions.

• Support Engineering

• Oversee the support engineering team to ensure timely and effective resolution of technical issues.

• Implement best practices to enhance customer satisfaction and support efficiency. 

• Quality Engineering

• Lead quality assurance initiatives to maintain high standards in product development.

• Coordinate testing strategies and ensure the reliability of software releases.

• Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

• Collaborate with SRE teams to maintain system reliability, scalability, and performance.

• Implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively address potential issues.

• Data Engineering

• Build and optimize data models within Snowflake data warehouse.

• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.

• Implement data quality checks and monitoring to ensure data accuracy and reliability.

• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of data engineering best practices.

• Stay up to date with the latest data engineering technologies and trends.

Required Qualifications

• 8–12 years of data engineering management experience within global teams.

• Strong verbal and written

communication skills.

• Proficiency in creating mechanisms for monitoring and tracking SLAs in Jira and other systems.

• Experience in process mapping, root cause analysis, and data analysis. Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with international counterparts and ensure teams have adequate business context and systems access.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.

• Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL (Snowflake and Redshift).

• Knowledge of Linux commands and bash scripting.

• Experience with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform.

• Familiarity with containerized services (Docker and Kubernetes).

• Experience with Agile software development methodologies.

• Understanding of storage, networking, and firewall concepts in AWS.

• Proficiency with modern ETL/ELT tools such as Airflow and dbt.

• Self-directed with a bias towards action and a consistent record of achieving results.
