Responsibilities Job Overview:

 The main purpose is primarily to ensure maximum plant availability through effective preventative and planned maintenance, and will accordingly attend to all breakdowns, diagnose (using different problem solving techniques) and conduct the necessary repairs and mechanical modifications and sign off work done as meeting required standards. Machining basic mechanical spares, milling and gear cutting. Continuous improvement on manufacturing lines to reach better and more volume outputs.Assist with projects when required.Saving initiatives on expenses (Electricity,Water and Machine Spares.)Conducts diagnosis of equipment failuresWorks with and through technicians and other employees to establish mechanical and equipment performance before breakdowns were reportedEstablishes whether the equipment breakdown is related to a missed planned maintenance or part failure or human interferenceUses any of the problem (finding and) solving techniques like 5-Whys, RCA, decision trees etc. to pinpoint the real problem behind failures/breakdownsCompletes job card in consultation with the Maintenance Planner/Store Controller and requisitions a part or modifies mechanical parts depending on the outcome of the aboveInterpret components (e.g. shaft/bushes) structural failure, material specifications and reproduce the technical drawings of the componentsComplete material purchase requisition in line with required scope of the diagnosis and spares to be machinedConducts preventative maintenancePerforms defined and/or ad hoc condition monitoring on mechanical equipment on a daily basis when on shift Completes documentation relating to work done for future reference in the event of failuresMay replace parts in the event of noted probable failures to ensure continuous equipment runningContinuous reference to equipment drawings, engineering standards and GMPs in the performance and closing out of jobs done.Generate component drawings as required for all adhoc parts during equipment overhaulMachining, drilling, cutting and polishing of equipment componentsManage machined components/spares in the Machine shop to ensure adequate cover for Planned Maintenance activitiesManaging and servicing of Machine shop equipment (Lathe machines, Drilling machine, Hydraulic press) and housekeepingPlanned MaintenanceEnsures that scheduled maintenance in terms of Engineering plans is conducted as prescribed following defined protocols and compliance to GMPsEnsures that machined spares are available as and when required and shall schedule time to execute this oneCompletes job cards and parts requisition documents timeously to improve on mean time to repair thus ensuring high plant availabilityEnsure that all schedule maintenance is completed in the prescribed time and that all necessary information is completed in order to be closed on the CMMS by the Store Controller/Maintenance PlannerPlant Breakdowns Attends to all mechanical plant breakdowns following or informed by diagnosis conducted under point 1 aboveIn the event of mechanical modifications, follows defined procedures in updating relevant documentation and equipment recordsProactively escalates equipment problems to ensure minimal or eliminate time stoppagesMaintains IPS standards on the respective linesClearly demarcates workstation in accordance with procedures in the event of major work to minimise disruptions and possible injuries as a result of human traffic and area being used as thoroughfareAdheres to AIB and relevant food safety programmes and environmental protocolsCompletes documentation of work done and close out on ad hoc call outs Updates parts/spares records in conjunction with the stores (OEM, machined and generic spares/parts)Monitors equipment performance after attending to and fixing problemsClosing all near misses and safety related tasksEnsure that all audits are prepared well in advanced to minimise any findingsKeep records and documentation up to date, such as weekly, monthly inspections etc.Assist in training of apprentices and operatorsImprovements of machinery in his/her responsible areasEnsure maximum of 2% downtime on the above responsible areas and the entire factoryWeekend work shall be compulsory as and when requiredStandby for the entire site in the event of any Mechanical emergencies after hours or weekendsDue to operational requirement adhoc work shall be issued over and above their normal day to day tasks and need to be in timeouslyQualificationsQualified Trade Tested Fitter and TurnerMin N3 Engineering QualificationMin 3 years post trade test experience within a manufacturing environmentGood mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fault-finding skillsAbility to prepare and read mechanical schematicsDesign and manufacture mechanical componentsWelding and basic plate work requiredSolid knowledge and experience on Lathes and Milling MachinesFully conversant with Environmental, Health and Safety StandardsResponsible for Technical AssetsComputer literate with knowledge of MS Office and maintenance software (SAP preferably)“PepsiCo is an Equal Opportunity Employer in line with the Employment Equity Act"
